Reliable identification of bounded-length viruses is NP-complete

چکیده

A virus is a program that replicates itself by copying its code into other files. A common virus protection mechanism involves scanning files to detect code patterns of known viruses. We prove that the problem of reliably identifying a bounded-length mutating virus is NP-complete by showing that a virus detector for a certain virus strain can be used to solve the satisfiability problem. The implication of this result is that virus identification methods will be facing increasing strain as virus mutation and hosting strategies mature, and that different protection methods should be developed and employed. 1 2

Comparing Reductions to NP-Complete Sets

Under the assumption that NP does not have p-measure 0, we investigate reductions to NP-complete sets and prove the following: 1. Adaptive reductions are more powerful than nonadaptive reductions: there is a problem that is Turing-complete for NP but not truth-table-complete. 2. Strong nondeterministic reductions are more powerful than deterministic reductions: there is a problem that is SNP-co...

Take It NP-Easy: Bounded Model Construction for Duration Calculus

Following the recent successes of bounded model-checking, we reconsider the problem of constructing models of discrete-time Duration Calculus formulae. While this problem is known to be non-elementary when arbitrary length models are considered [Han94], it turns out to be only NP-complete when constrained to bounded length. As a corollary we obtain that model construction is in NP for the formu...

Optical solution for bounded NP-complete problems.

We present a new optical method for solving bounded (input-length-restricted) NP-complete combinatorial problems. We have chosen to demonstrate the method with an NP-complete problem called the traveling salesman problem (TSP). The power of optics in this method is realized by using a fast matrix-vector multiplication between a binary matrix, representing all feasible TSP tours, and a gray-scal...

Length bounded molecular computing.

The length of DNA strands is an important resource in DNA computing. We show how to decrease strand lengths in known molecular algorithms for some NP-complete problems, such as like 3-SAT and Independent Set, without substantially increasing their running time or volume.

Evaluation of immunogenicity of recombinant influenza nucleoprotein (NP) for universal vaccine

Background: Influenza vaccines based on conserved proteins are being developed persistently. The conserved protein vaccines based on Nucleoprotein (NP) are highly protected vaccines against influenza viruses that can be used as a Universal vaccine. Aluminum hydroxide (Alum) is the most common adjuvant used in vaccine formulation to improve immunization by altering the epitopes’ folds. However, ...
